Construction Period
The first phase of Liyutan Reservoir construction was started in July 1985 and completed in November 1992. The dam crest is at an elevation of 306 m with a total storage volume of 126.12*106 m3. The second phase of Liyutan Reservoir construction is the Shilin Hydropower project. Water will be diverted from Daan River at Shilin Weir Passing through a long tunnel to Zhuolan hydropower plant. The tail water of the power plant flows into Jingshan Creek, and is stored in Liyutan Reservoir for multi-purpose use. The completion of Shilin Hydropower project will increase water supply capability from 220,000 m3 per day to 900,000 m3 per day, providing better water supply service.

Functional Goal
Liyutan Reservoir provides water for domestic, industrial and agricultural use in the region including Taichung City and Miaoli County. In addition to water supply capability, Liyutan Reservoir also provides enjoyable environmental and natural features for recreation.
