EPZA endeavors to promote new AR/VR base in southern Taiwan, leading the new era of somatosensory technologies and FunTech economy. SOURCE:MOEA

The government’s “Asian Silicon Valley” plan mainly promotes research and development of internet of things (IoT) and strengthens the eco-system of innovative startups. Responding to the aims of government’s Asian Silicon valley policy, the Export Processing Zone Administration (EPZA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) built the first new AR/VR base in Kaohsiung Software Park (KSP) in southern Taiwan. And the EPZA held an inauguration ceremony on 13th June 2017. Also attending the inauguration ceremony VIPs were Legislators Madam Bi-Ling Kuan and Mr. Ruei-Long Lai, Chairperson of VR/AR FunTech Industry-Academia RD Alliance also President of Star-World International Corp., Mr. Jun-Bo Wang, and Vice Chairperson of VR/AR FunTech Industry-Academia RD Alliance also Principal of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology Mr. Qian Dai, Director General of Southern Industry Service Division of Institute for Information Industry (III) Mr. Liang-Sen Lian, and other representatives coming from industries, colleges, and RD institutes. All attendees showed high affirmation and support for somatosensory industries developed by KSP. The EPZA Director-General Dr. Wen-Guu Huang expressed his expectation that AR/VR startup companies in Southern Taiwan will firstly choose KSP to station in after this first AR/VR base being promoted, and this base will not only become the demonstration field of somatosensory technology industries, but also become the new paradise for talented entrepreneurs to practice their dreams. Also Legislators Madam Bi-Ling Kuan and Mr. Ruei-Long Lai showed high affirmation for somatosensory industries developed by KSP, and they promised to help EPZA compete for more government budgets and funds of “Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Plan”, expecting more innovative industries will station in KSP under the cooperation between central and local governments, making KSP become the new highlight of the government’s “Asian Silicon Valley” plan, creating more good job vacancies for young people in Kaohsiung. The EPZA Director-General Dr. Wen-Guu Huang also indicated, to increase the development momentum for innovative startups in KSP, the EPZA would give impetus under four strategies. First, to link upgrade resources, the EPZA would link resources of external projects and help companies stationed in zones get subsidies to upgrade, giving impetus to the industrial development transformation in zones. Second, to build innovative co-working spaces, the EPZA would build spaces including Maker Cafe, Maker Wisdom, Eyemax VR Campus, and K Square, etc. These spaces provide free or cheaper rent for startups to save costs and settle in. And these spaces collaborate with multiple counseling services programs from the EPZA, accelerating startups’ development. Third, to train innovative talents, the EPZA would promote VR/AR FunTech Industry-Academia RD Alliance, endeavoring to train talents for innovative industries, supplying high quality and abundant labor force for companies. Last but not least, to promote special projects’ guidance, the EPZA would introduce professional institutional counseling groups, promoting customized counseling services, also assisting companies in innovation upgrades. Many industries have resonance with the finest investment environment in KSP built by the EPZA. Eyemax Technology Holdings Ltd. is one of the companies which station in KSP, indicating that it takes part in AR/VR somatosensory technology industries, being optimistic about KSP’s future that will become the core of somatosensory industries in southern Taiwan. In addition, under the assistance of innovative projects’ guidance and talents training from the EPZA and techniques and business promotions from Institute for Information Industry, Eyemax Technology Holdings Ltd. would firstly choose KSP to settle down its VR Campus, training high quality VR talents for somatosensory industries. Pumpkin Studio, which also stationed in KSP, was founded by an innovative team that loves VR, AR and MR technologies. One of the founders Mr. Yi-Xiang Liao also indicated that after choosing KSP’s Maker Cafe to enter, Pumpkin Studio can contact with elites from different fields more easily, and it can have close cooperation with the EPZA and Institute for Information Industry, which will help speed up the growth of the company. In addition, with the positive assistance from the EPZA and Institute for Information Industry, Pumpkin Studio successfully collaborated with HAPPY100, which is the physical distribution channel operator, to develop the multiplayer VR shooting game “ Mummy Ghost Borderland ” with an unreal engine 4. And it originated the first combination between developers and operators, realizing the start-up of the offline experience shop.
