According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs,1,558 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$3,772,683,000 were approved from January to June 2017. This indicates a decrease of 4.12% in the number of cases, and a decrease of 31.44% in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2016.

With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 67 cases were approved with an amount of US$154,083,000 from January to June 2017. This indicates decrease in the FDI amount 2.01 % compared with the same period of 2016. Aggregated from July 2009 to June 2017, 1,014 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$1,844,927,000.

In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 225 projects were registered from January to June 2017 with a total amount of US$5,375,746,000 indicating a decrease of 12.79% in the number of cases，and a decrease of 34.52% in the amount as compared with the same period of 2016.

As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 258 applications have been approved from January to June 2017, indicating an increase of 113.22% compared with the same period of 2016. The approved investment amount is US$4,191,855,000，2.22% more than the same period in 2016.
